Dehradun: On Monday afternoon, a massive landslide occurred at Jhali Math in Sari village of Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand displacing a total of 11 families in the town.

There has been no loss of life following the incident, according to Disaster Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) of Rudraprayag; however, it razed several cowsheds and toilets.

“On Monday afternoon, the landslide occurred in the hilly Jhalimath village of Rudraprayag as a chunk of the slope beneath the village slid several hundred meters down to the banks of River Alaknanda. Luckily, there was no one present around the slide zone,” Nandan Singh Rajwar, District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), Rudraprayag told TOI. As the landslide is active, 11 families living in houses, which have become unsafe, have been shifted to safer places, the DDMO said.

Senior officials of district administration, including the Tehsildar, district disaster management officer and police reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
