NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally in west Delhi's Madipur where he criticised PM Narendra Modi, media and AAP national convener
Arvind Kejriwal for "aiding corporates and the wealthy" while neglecting the Dalits, Adivasis and backward communities.
Reminding people of the civic infrastructure created by former Congress CM
Sheila Dikshit in the capital, he said that Kejriwal and Modi had destroyed it. "Kejriwal entered politics riding a WagonR. He drove it straight to the Sheesh Mahal parking lot," said Rahul, alluding to the extravagantly renovated CM's residence on Flagstaff Road.
Seeking people's support for Congress candidates JP Panwar from Madipur, PS Bawa from Tilak Nagar and Dharmpal Chandela from Rajouri Garden, Rahul said that Dalits and backward communities might have representation but they didn't have participation. That is why Congress had raised the matter of a caste census in Parliament, he said. It was to show how benefits belonging to "90% were being enjoyed by 5-6% of the population".
He also displayed a photograph of Kejriwal and his team. "Look here, AAP calls them their Navratna - Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Atishi, Sanjay Singh, Satyendra Jain, Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Awadh Ojha. Show me a single person from the Dalit, Adivasi, minority, or backward class," said Rahul.
Speaking in the reserved constituency with around 27% Dalits and 42% OBC voters, the Congressman said that Dalits, minorities, OBCs and tribes comprised 90% of the Indian population, but had no representation in the judiciary, corporate India, media, private universities and colleges "Modi can waive off loan totalling Rs 16 lakh crore for rich people, but what about you?" he asked. "Tomorrow, the budget will be presented. If Rs 100 is released tomorrow, then backward communities will get just Rs 6.10 and Dalits a mere 10 paise.
You will find Dalits and Adivasis doing manual labour, constructing roads and buildings, but who gets the cuts are Ambani, Adani, and, some of it, Kejriwal."
Accusing Kejriwal of failing to protect Dalits and minorities, he questioned where Kejriwal was during the Feb 2020 riots. "We stood by the people when riots took place because we believe in the Constitution created by Ambedkar," said Rahul, waving a copy of the statute.
The Congress MP also attacked Kejriwal on the contaminated Yamuna and corruption. "Kejriwal said that he would clean the Yamuna and drink its water. Kejriwal ji, leave the Yamuna's water alone. Do you dare to drink the water you supply here to the jhuggis? You blame Haryana for polluting the Yamuna but it was your responsibility to clean the river," he said.
