New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out at BJP and AAP on Wednesday, alleging that the parties are "two sides of the same coin and master liars".
Addressing a gathering at Burari prior to the assembly elections in Delhi, Kharge reminded people of ‘the golden era of Delhi' under the Congress govt led by former CM Sheila Dikshit, which saw massive development in the national capital. He pointed out that infrastructure growth, be it roads, flyovers or the metro train, all happened under the Congress rule headed by Dikshit.
Questioning the claims made by AAP of providing a ‘neat and clean governance', Kharge referred to the toxic pollution in the Yamuna and asked people to make both Modi and Kejriwal take a dip in the river. He alleged they were not even able to provide a clean environment or clean water to the people. "Both Modiji and Kejriwal are master liars. Both did not get the Yamuna cleaned. Both should take a dip in the Yamuna once. What kind of leader is he (Kejriwal) who cannot provide clean drinking water? I would say to both, don't do this drama!"
Taking a dig at the BJP and AAP, he said, both these parties were together in maligning the Congress party. He pointed out how the BJP and Kejriwal's team collaborated and started Anna Hazare's movement against the Congress.
He further alleged, "BJP and AAP are two sides of the same coin. Whatever the Congress govt made, BJP is selling it. And AAP speaks as if they descended from heaven. They say everything is fine with them, then why did they go to jail? Why were you caught in the excise scam? Aap dono Harishchandra ke beto ne milkar humko yaha se hatayana…to phir Delhi me koi vikas kyu nahi hua? Yaha ke yuvao ko rozgar kyu nahi mila?" he said.
Kharge said, "While the AAP behaves as if nothing existed in Delhi before it came to power, the BJP believes that the country got freedom not in 1947, but the day Modi became the Prime Minister." He further alleged, "RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said that India got real freedom not in 1947 but in 2024 when the Ram Temple was inaugurated."
Responding to the allegations, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said, "Congress president Kharge should ponder before speaking as he often embarrasses himself with his words. Before casting any aspersion on BJP, he should remember that he danced to the tune of Arvind Kejriwal just 8 months ago when both were alliance partners in Delhi. Even today, both AAP and Congress are in connivance in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation."
