GHAZIABAD: One kanwaria died while another was seriously injured after a four-wheeler hit their bike on the Delhi-Meerut road near the Kadrabad police chowki on Tuesday.

The deceased, Chetan Kumar, a native of Delhi, worked as a salesman in a shoe shop in Delhi. He was going to Haridwar with his friend Prince.

Yogendra Kumar Singh, the station house officer of Modinagar police station, said that at around 2 am on Tuesday, police got information about the accident. A team reached the spot and took the injured people to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The doctors declared Chetan 'brought dead', while Prince's condition remains critical. “Investigation revealed they were going to Haridwar from Delhi on a bike. An unidentified four-wheeler hit the bike, and the driver didn’t stop to check the victim's condition. Police are checking the CCTV footage of the nearby area to trace the suspect,” he said.

A family member of Prince said they were friends from childhood. Both have been participating in the kanwar yatra for the past five years. "On Monday, after visiting a Shiv temple in the neighbourhood, both had left the house for Haridwar around 6 pm. When they reached the Ghaziabad Meerut-Tiraha junction, they rested for some time. Prince called and informed the family they had reached Ghaziabad and would start their journey again after taking meals," he said.
