TP Martyr Square unveiled at Vallikkad
Kozhikode: TP Martyr Square, the memorial set up for slain RMP leader TP Chandrasekharan, was inaugurated on his 13th death anniversary at Vallikkad on Sunday.
The square was inaugurated by RMP national secretary Mangat Ram Pasla in the presence of hundreds of RMP workers.
He said CPM has become subservient to neo-capitalism and added that as the country witnesses the strengthening of neo-fascism, CPM was laying out a red carpet for it.
The memorial was constructed on the land near Vallikkad where Chandrasekharan was hacked to death. A full-size statue of TP stands in front of the memorial.
Displayed at the Martyr Square are personal belongings such as the bike he was riding on the day he was martyred, his bag, spectacles and soil from the spot he was killed at.
Chandrasekharan was brutally murdered on the night of May 4, 2012. After leaving the CPM and forming the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP), Chandrasekharan was a thorn in the flesh of his former party. In subsequent elections in Vatakara, CPM suffered significant setbacks. The political murder that followed put CPM under intense scrutiny.
RMP state secretary N Venu presided over the function. DCC president K Praveen Kumar, Shafi Parambil MP, RMP leader and Chandrasekharan's wife KK Rema MLA, KS Hariharan, among others, spoke at the function.
