Couple held for double murder in Bijnor after 6 months
Bijnor: A couple has been arrested six months after a history-sheeter and his wife were kidnapped and murdered in Bijnor. Two more accused are still absconding, police said on Saturday.
Additional SP Sanjeev Vajpayee said the bodies of Sompal Singh,50, and his wife Baby ,48, residents of Muzaffarnagar, were found in the Gangan River under Nahtaur police station on Oct 9, 2024. Sompal, a history-sheeter, had multiple criminal cases against him.
Police said Sompal's daughter Poonam lodged a kidnapping and murder case against Rajveer Singh of Bamankhedi village, Amroha district. Rajveer and Sompal were known to be involved in criminal activities together.
On Friday night, police and a SWAT team arrested Rajveer near Baal Kishan crossing in Haldaur. He was shot in the leg during retaliatory firing and later arrested. His wife Neema was also apprehended based on his confession. A pistol was recovered from Rajveer, while two other accused — Rajveer's son-in-law Jeeva and relative Sonu — remain at large.
ASP Vajpayee added Rajveer paid Sompal Rs 2 lakh in advance to kill a man named Ashok, but Sompal neither carried out the murder nor returned the money. Disputes over stolen goods and suspicions of being informed upon further escalated tensions. Rajveer, along with his accomplices, lured Sompal and Baby on the pretext of buying medicines, spiked their drinks, and drowned them in the Gangan River after they fell unconscious.
The arrested couple was produced in court and sent to jail on Saturday. Police are continuing efforts to apprehend the remaining accused.
