Pune: At least 15 farmers from Latur district were injured in a bee attack at Shivneri Fort on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Dharmendra Kore, a resident of Junnar, who sustained injuries in the bee attack, told TOI that he went to the fort to participate in Shivai Devi Abhishek Sohla. "We noticed a group of farmers running towards the temple to save themselves from the swarm of bees. We told them not to run. But the bees stung me, too," Kore said.
He said that the priest of the temple gave him a bedsheet. A rescue team reached the spot, brought him down from the fort, and admitted him to a hospital, Kore said.
An officer from Junnar police said that about 15 people were injured in the incident. "Their injuries are not serious," the officer said.
Meanwhile, this was the fourth incident of bee attack at Shivneri Fort in the last two months. On Feb 19 this year, 10 people, who had come to participate in the birth anniversary celebrations of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, were injured in bee attack at the fort. Then on March 16, at least 46 people who travelled to Shivneri Fort to mark Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's birth anniversary were injured in bee attack. On April 20, at least 17 tourists, including five children, were injured stung by bees at the fort.
