Keanu Reeves has shared his thoughts on the potential for a fifth installment of the 'John Wick' series, revealing a mix of enthusiasm and hesitation due to physical limitations. In a recent interview promoting his role as the villain Shadow in 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3', the 60-year-old actor was asked about returning to the iconic role of John Wick. Reeves candidly admitted that he would so love to go back to the role but that "his body, especially knees, might not be ready for the heavy action on another 'John Wick' " film. He accepted his body's price for what the role has demanded over all these years: "hearts willing, bodies not," as per People Magazine.
Although there is no word in clear about his coming back to the original plot of 'John Wick', Reeves is still in the franchise of 'John Wick'. He will once again play the action hero role, but this time as a legendary hitman in a cameo for the new spin-off film 'From the World of John Wick: Ballerina', which will be shown in theaters on June 6, 2025. Reeves will appear in the film opposite a new cast that also includes Ana de Armas and Cisely Saldivar, in the film that continues the legacy of the action franchise.
The 'John Wick' series started its journey with the 2014 film and went global, with each of its subsequent films receiving critical appreciation and audience praise. Its first film introduced Reeves as a retired assassin, John Wick, who seeks vengeance for his beloved dog's death. The movie attracted dedicated fans, and the franchise continued with 'John Wick: Chapter 2' in 2017, 'John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum' in 2019, and 'John Wick: Chapter 4' in 2023. Collectively, the franchise raked in more than $1 billion globally, ranking it one of the best action movie series in cinema history.
But it's beyond the films into the plethora of spin-offs, which includes the prequel series 'The Continental', video games, and comic books. All of this serves to attest to its far-reaching appeal. As for 'John Wick 5', not much is known yet, but there is 'Ballerina' and other developments that await in this franchise.
