Anushka Sharma once shared that she felt disheartened and even cried after losing the Best Female Debut award to Asin. Both were nominated in the same category—Anushka for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Asin for Ghajini. In an old interview, Anushka admitted she thought she would win since Asin had already done Ghajini in Tamil and Hindi.
The action thriller Ghajini, directed by AR Murugadoss, was originally made in Tamil in 2005, starring Suriya and Asin. That same year, it was dubbed and released in Telugu by Allu Aravind. In 2008, Murugadoss remade the film in Hindi, featuring Aamir Khan alongside Asin.
Anushka’s Disappointment Over the AwardIn a 2018 interview on Look Who's Talking With Niranjan, Anushka shared that she was quite upset about not winning the Best Female Debut award. She had assumed that since Asin had already acted in Ghajini across multiple languages and had years of experience, the award would likely go to her instead.
The actress further expressed that she felt she truly deserved the award as Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was her debut film, and she was a newcomer who needed encouragement. She was convinced she would win, but when Asin received it instead, she was deeply disappointed. Though she clapped for the winner, she later cried like a child, similar to how one would after missing out on a school certificate.
