'It doesn't matter': Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary's first reaction to appointment of new Bengal Congress president

Congress' former West Bengal unit chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Sunday broke his silence over the appointment of Subhankar Sarkar as his replacement, stating "it doesn't matter" who the party chose for the top position.
The Congress appointed Sarkar as the new president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress committee on Saturday, replacing Chowdhury, who stepped down from the post after he lost to Trinamool candidate Yusuf Pathan in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from the Baharampur constituency.
Reacting to Sarkar's appointment, Chowdhury said: "Don't want to say anything, anyone can become the president, there was a president before me, on the next date too someone will become the president of this party, whoever becomes the president has to be left to the president, what difference does it make, it doesn't matter. Anyone has the right to become the president of a working company."

Notably, Sarkar is also the Congress state-in-charge of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.
"Hon'ble Congress President has appointed Shri Subhankar Sarkar as the President of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect," the official statement by the party read. 'He has been relieved from his current position as AICC Secretary. The party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing PCC President, Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury," it added
Meanwhile today, the newly appointed party's state president addressed the press and talked about his plans for 2026 state assembly election.
"I want to take forward the programs of the Congress by keeping all the party workers together... Mission 2026 Assembly elections, this is one mission and another mission is my organisation... To make the voice reach the Assembly and the Parliament, a representative is required. And that representative will come from the organisation ..." he said.

On asking about his stand towards the TMC, Sarkar said that when a Congress worker is moving forward with the party flag, he will oppose anyone to keep the flag high. Whoever will raise an eye against the Congress flag, we will oppose it.
