Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the first full budget of Modi government 3.0, marking her record eighth consecutive budget in the Lok Sabha. The budget focuses on "garib, youth, annadata, and nari" (poor, youth, farmers, and women) while initiating reforms across six key domains—taxation, urban development, mining, financial sector, power, and regulatory policies.
A major highlight of the budget is income tax relief under the new tax regime. Sitharaman announced that no tax will be payable on incomes up to Rs 12 lakh, and up to Rs 12.75 lakh for salaried taxpayers, including the standard deduction. The revised tax rate structure is: Rs 0-4 lakh (0%), Rs 4-8 lakh (5%), Rs 8-12 lakh (10%), Rs 12-16 lakh (15%), Rs 16-20 lakh (20%), Rs 20-24 lakh (25%), and above Rs 24 lakh (30%).
A day before the budget, the Economic Survey projected India’s economy to grow between 6.3% and 6.8% in FY 2025-26, highlighting strong economic fundamentals, a stable external account, fiscal discipline, and robust private consumption. It also underscored the government’s focus on long-term industrial growth, with increased investments in research and development (R&D), MSMEs, and capital goods to strengthen the economy’s future trajectory..
