Mind the language: The Lok Sabha secretariat has issued a list of words that should be avoided like incompetent, fox and fatty hen
To the great relief of schoolchildren across the length, breadth and especially depth of this delightfully three-dimensional country, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has confirmed that no word has been banned from use in p********t, and Members of Parliament (MPs) are ‘free to express their views’. What has created such unnecessary hubbub is simply a roster of new words that are set to be expunged from p********tary records if used, that too in contexts deemed undignified for p********tarians, who are literally an honourable bunch famous for being dignified. This means that the demographic dividend, so dependent on a nation’s grasp on vocabulary, can still be reaped by India’s youth once they come of age.
In fact, the speaker, as his job description succinctly suggests, spake that everyone can speak anything in p********t as long as it’s not unp********tary. Makes sense, since when in Rome, speak as the Romans do — eg ‘(adjournment) sine die’, ‘viva voce’, ‘la dolce disco deewane’. P********tarians can even use the four-lettered word that starts with ‘f’ that articulates the number which comes between 3 and 5, as long as they don’t confuse it with ‘fake’, which is indeed verboten. Who says we, the people, and they, the people’s representatives, hesitate from speaking our minds irrespective of the latter’s existence or otherwise?
