LeBron James has made a career out of breaking records. James recently played his 1,542nd career game, surpassing
Vince Carter for third place on the all-time games played list. The only players ahead of him now are
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1,560) and Robert Parish (1,611).
James is showing no signs of slowing down and it is fair to assume that he has a legitimate shot at claiming the top spot before he hangs up his basketball sneakers. At 40 years old, James is still showing his A-game in the league.
LeBron James is the youngest and oldest player to score 40 points
James added another record to his collection. In the Lakers’ 120-112 win over the Golden State Warriors on February 6 at Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles, he became the oldest player in NBA history to score 40 points in a game. Dropping a season-high 42 points, James surpassed the previous record held by his idol, Michael Jordan, who accomplished the feat just days after turning 40 in 2003.
“I’m old, that’s my take,” James joked when asked about the record. “I need a glass of wine and some sleep, that’s what I think.”
This achievement is particularly poetic when considering James also holds the distinction of being the youngest player in NBA history to record a 40-point game.
Alongside his 42 points, he pulled down a season-high 17 rebounds and dished out eight assists, demonstrating his all-around brilliance against the Warriors.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick hailed the King James following the game, “We’ve run out of words and superlatives and descriptions to capture what he’s doing at this stage of his career and at this age. It continues to be remarkable.”
“James' performance was especially vital on a night when Austin Reaves struggled with his shot. “We needed all of that offense from LeBron,” Redick added.
