Sony and Sucker Punch Productions announced "Ghost of Yotei", a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2020 game "Ghost of Tsushima", during Tuesday's State of Play presentation. The game is slated for release in 2025 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
Set 300 years after the events of the original game, "Ghost of Yotei" introduces a new protagonist named Atsu.
The story takes place in 1603 around Mount Yotei in Ezo, an area known today as Hokkaido. Players will explore sprawling grasslands and snowy tundras in this remote region of northern Japan.

The brief teaser trailer showcased Atsu wielding both a samurai sword and a shamisen, a traditional Japanese string instrument. A mysterious wolf companion was also featured, hinting at new gameplay mechanics.
Sucker Punch emphasised that "Ghost of Yotei" is their first game built from the ground up for PlayStation 5. The studio promise significant visual enhancements, including improved draw distances, more detailed skies with stars and auroras, and enhanced environmental effects.
The studio aims to maintain the core pillars of the original game while coming up with a fresh story and setting. The new setting allows for "new mechanics, gameplay improvements, and even new weapons," says the studio. However, specific details on these features were not provided.
Sucker Punch says that additional details about Atsu's journey and the game's world will be revealed in the coming months.
