Apple's long-rumoured smart home device – a new HomePod equipped with a display – is reportedly facing some problems and due to this, its mass production has been delayed, a report has said. The production of the device has been delayed multiple times.
According to Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, latest projections point to a release after Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in the third quarter of 2025.

“The mass production schedule for the display-equipped HomePod has been delayed multiple times. Initially forecasted for 2024 (as I predicted in 2023), it was postponed to 1Q25, and more recently, further delayed to after WWDC 2025/3Q25,” he said.
Why mass production of display-equipped HomePod is delayed
Kuo said that the delays are primarily attributed to software development challenges. Apple is known for its seamless software functionality across devices and tightly integrated ecosystem. This new HomePod represents a strategic repositioning of Apple's smart home product line, with a stronger emphasis on smart home functionalities.
The display-equipped HomePod is expected to feature A18 processor, a 6-7 inch display, and integration with Apple Intelligence, the company's advanced AI technology. Apple is also rumored to be developing a smart home IP camera, slated for a 2026 release, which will integrate with the display-equipped HomePod.
“I previously predicted that Apple would launch a smart home IP camera in 2026, which will be able to wirelessly connect with the display-equipped HomePod. I believe Apple will tightly integrate these two new products with its existing ecosystem and HomeKit to deliver a seamless smart home experience,” he added.
Initial shipment estimates for the display-equipped HomePod are around 500,000 units in the second half of 2025. If the product resonates with consumers, annual shipments could reach millions of units, potentially transforming Apple's presence in the smart home market, he added.
