Google CEO
Sundar Pichai has shared a bunch of photos, including one with Prime minister Narendra Modi, on his
Instagram handle. Pichai said that it was “energising [a] few days in NYC” and “met with leaders”. His post comes days after he said that
PM Modi has “challenged” Google to do more.
“Energizing few days in NYC where I gave a keynote at the UN's Summit of the Future about the transformative power of AI to make progress, and met with leaders,” Pichai said in a post, adding that, “But first I spent time with Googlers at our office in the historic St. John's Terminal - a beautiful space and a great crowd. Can't wait to come back!”.
Pichai on “four biggest opportunities” in AI space
Pichai said that Google is working “on the most transformative technology yet: AI” and the company has “four of the biggest opportunities” to improve people’s lives.
“One is helping people access the world’s information and knowledge in their own language,” he said, adding that using AI, users can translate 110 new languages via Google Translate, which is spoken by half a billion people around the world.
“That brings our total to 246 languages, and we’re working toward 1,000 of the world’s most spoken languages,” he added.
A second area is accelerating scientific discovery to benefit humanity and a third opportunity is helping people in the path of climate-related disaster, Pichai said at the 79th
United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) — including the first ever “Summit of the Future” — where he delivered a keynote address.
“Fourth, we see the opportunity for AI to meaningfully contribute to economic progress. It’s already enabling entrepreneurs and small businesses …empowering governments to provide public services… and boosting productivity across sectors,” he added.
PM Modi “pushed us to continue making in India”: Pichai
Recently, Pichai said that Google is “proud to now make” Pixel smartphones in India and the PM is “focussed on transforming India.”
“He pushed us to continue making in India, designing in India. We are proud to now make our Pixel phones manufactured in India. He challenged us to think about applications in healthcare, education, agriculture and he is also thinking about the infrastructure of India - be it data centres, power, energy and investing to make sure that India can transition. And we are proud to be partnering with India,” Pichai said of PM Modi, as per ANI.
“We are robustly investing in AI in India and we look forward to doing more. We have set several programs and partnerships...He has always challenged all of us to do more, more for India. Now, he is asking us to do the same with AI,” Pichai added.
