Apple has officially released watchOS 11.3, the latest update to its Apple Watch operating system, and it comes with the new Black Unity watch face. This addition is part of Apple's ongoing commitment to celebrating and promoting diversity and inclusion.

Introducing the Black Unity watch face and band

The new Black Unity watch face is designed to match the newly released Black Unity Sport Loop. Both the watch face and the band were created in collaboration with Black creatives and allies at Apple. The watch face features unique numerals formed by intertwined threads of red, green, and yellow, representing the colours of the Pan-African flag. As users raise their wrists to check the time, the strands coalesce from abstract brush strokes into clear digits, creating a visually dynamic and meaningful experience.

The Black Unity Sport Loop, part of the collection, highlights the colors of the Pan-African flag—black, green, and red—through a custom pattern of raised and recessed loops that create a lenticular effect.

Other features in watchOS 11.3

In addition to the Black Unity watch face, watchOS 11.3 brings several other improvements and bug fixes. Notably, HealthKit issues have been addressed, ensuring authorisation for data types persists, and users no longer need to repeatedly grant access.

How to update

Users can download and install watchOS 11.3 for free via the Apple Watch app on their iPhone. The update process requires the Apple Watch to have at least 50% battery, be placed on a charger, and be in range of the iPhone.
