Arunachal Pradesh is one of the most offbeat states to visit when it comes to travel. Apart from the annual Ziro Festival of Music, the state is usually on the wishlist of riding enthusiasts and extreme birders. (We say extreme because some of the forests where birders go, they are not for faint of heart. Most of the places are difficult to reach, but nothing that strong will power and an even stronger 4x4 vehicle cannot handle.

Home to Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India, Tawang is everything you want to see in a cool destination. Tawang is surrounded by picture-perfect snow-clad mountains and dense forests. Visit Tawang to see what Sela Pass and Sela Tunnel are all about, their history and geographical importance in terms of defence. Pangang Teng Tso Lake and Sungester Lake (also known as Madhuri Lake) are also must-visits.

Did you know that Ziro Valley will be hosting the annual Ziro Festival of Music from Sept 26 to 29? Now you know. The drive to Ziro valley is a very pretty one, with bamboo groves on one side, and paddyfields on the other. The towering pine trees are a constant companion. Ziro Valley is home to the Apatani tribe who are famous for their unique farming practices and face tattoos!

Bomdila is one of the remote towns of Arunachal Pradesh. Reaching Bomdila may be a challenge for some. But it compensates by giving you some of the most breathtaking natural views, the panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas, forest, hills and all. Here you will find scenic apple orchards, gorgeous sunrise and sunset points, and monasteries where you can take the much-needed breather.
