SURAT: Three family members consumed poison at their home in the Amroli area of the city and died during treatment at Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) on Saturday. Police recovered a suicide note from their home, which mentioned alleged harassment over the recovery of Rs 1 lakh by two individuals as the reason.

Bharat Sasangiya, his wife Vanita, and their son Harsh consumed the poisonous substance in the early hours of Saturday. Later, Bharat informed his neighbors about it. The neighbors then called a 108 EMRI ambulance, and all three were shifted to SMIMER.

They were declared dead during treatment. Bharat worked as a watchman, while Harsh was an agent with a financial service. "They were facing a severe financial crisis and had recently sold their home. They had taken ₹1 lakh as token money for the property, but the buyer later discovered that there was an existing unpaid loan against it," said a police officer.

Following this, the buyer canceled the deal and demanded the token money back. Police suspect that due to their financial crisis, the family was unable to repay the loan on the house, leading them to put it up for sale. After the deal was canceled, the family was likely unable to return the token money, which may have led them to take the extreme step.
