AGRA: A geography professor of a govt college in Hathras has been booked for rape and sexual harassment following allegations levelled against him by an anonymous complainant, who termed herself "lachaar beti (helpless daughter)" in a letter addressed to UP police officers in Lucknow and Hathras and president of National Commission for Women.
The complainant also provided a CD with videos and photos purportedly showing the professor inappropriately touching and kissing a female student. The professor was suspended on Sunday, said an official at the college.
DSP Hathras, Yogendra Krishan Narayan, said a police team was looking for him. After an initial probe, following complaints by sub-inspector Sunil Kumar, a case was registered under sections 64-2 (rape), 68 (sexual intercourse by a person in authority), 75 (sexual harassment) of BNS and the IT Act.
A senior officer, privy to the case, said, "During initial investigation, several individuals were questioned. Four days ago, SP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha assigned the case to ASP Ashok Kumar. After examining the evidence, including photos and the complaint (sent about two weeks ago), ASP found the allegations credible and submitted a report to the SP. A case was subsequently registered."
The accused may have raped and sexually exploited many female students by intimidating and luring them, the officer said. "He made obscene photos and videos of them," he added.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
