AHMEDABAD: A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his brother-in-law in Ahmedabad's Madhavpura locality on Tuesday evening. The deceased, Akash Makwana, had a love marriage with the sister of the accused about six weeks ago despite opposition from the girl's family.
According to police reports, the accused, Abhishek Parmar (19), was furious over his sister's marriage against family wishes. Both the victim and the accused are natives of Surendranagar district. Makwana worked as an auto-rickshaw driver and recently relocated to Ahmedabad with his wife, while Parmar, pursuing his third year BCom, moved to the city and was residing at his aunt's house.
Police investigation revealed that on Tuesday, Parmar invited his sister and her husband to the Lalakaka Hall area in Madhavpura, suggesting a family reconciliation. When the couple reached the location, he allegedly attacked Makwana with a knife multiple times, causing his death immediately as his sister watched.
Police said that the act appeared to be a pre-planned murder for revenge. "Parmar convinced his sister to arrange a meeting and subsequently killed her husband in front of her," said a police source from Madhavpura.
The couple was romantically involved and married despite opposition from Parmar and his family. The couple relocated to Ahmedabad merely 15 days ago, seeking a fresh start. However, Parmar, refusing to accept their marriage, devised a scheme to kill Makwana.
The Madhavpura police have taken Parmar into custody and are questioning him. Cops are also examining the potential involvement of Parmar's other family members in the crime.
