Ahmedabad: Gujarat, which has not seen a Congress-led govt for three decades, grabbed the limelight at the CWC session. Leaders emphasised that the party will put its entire might behind the Gujarat Congress to ensure that the party returns to power in the state when assembly elections are held in 2027.
"Our leader Rahul Gandhi stated his resolve that the Congress will win Gujarat in the 2027 assembly election. The entire AICC will strive for this, and I am confident our party will end the BJP's rule in the state," said deputy leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi.
The Congress announced that the AICC session is being held in Gujarat this year as it marks the 100th year since Mahatma Gandhi took over as the party president. This year is also the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Referring to Dadabhai Naoroji, Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, party president Mallikarjun Kharge said on Tuesday that three great personalities born in the land of Gujarat made the Congress famous all over the world. All of them were Congress presidents, he pointed out.
"Gandhiji gave us the weapon of truth and non-violence against injustice. This is such a strong ideological weapon that no power can stand against it," Kharge said. Speaking on Sardar Patel, the party president said, "Sardar Patel saheb lives in our hearts, lives in our thoughts. We are taking his legacy forward. We have organised this CWC meeting in Ahmedabad at Sardar Patel Museum with this thought in mind. We pay our heartfelt tributes to him."
Party leader Sachin Pilot said the Congress has always been strong in Gujarat, and the convention being held in the state will send out a message that will resonate across the whole country. "It is true that we lost the last few elections in Gujarat, but the party's roots in the state are very strong. We will have to work to connect all the voters with us, and I believe that this effort will be strengthened by the convention," he said.
Speaking on the sidelines of the CWC meeting, Congress leader Mumtaz Patel said that the revival of the Congress party will begin from Gujarat, and the CWC and AICC convention being held here will enthuse party workers.
The entire top leadership of the Congress, including president Mallikarjun Kharge, CPP chairperson Sonia Gandhi and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, all senior leaders at the national- and state-level, and other special delegates, are in Gujarat for the two-day CWC meeting and AICC session. The AICC session is being held in Gujarat after a period of 64 years.
