Court reunites couple after man vows to back wife’s career plan
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court reunited a married couple after the husband, who had studied until Class 10, agreed to support his wife's decision to complete her engineering studies and pursue a career.
The couple were neighbours in Modasa town of Aravalli district when they fell in love and decided to get married. The woman's family did not approve of their relationship as the man had dropped out after Class 10 while she was pursuing her bachelor's degree in engineering (computer science) at a college in Ahmedabad.
However, going against her parents' wishes, the duo secretly registered their marriage in Shahpur ward and continued to live separately. When the woman's family learned about it, they got her back home on March 4. Since then, the husband has not been able to contact her. So, he approached the high court. She told the court that she wished to live with her husband. While the court allowed the parents to counsel their daughter, she remained firm on her decision. When the court inquired again, the couple said they had discussed their future plans and decided to support each other.
The court then asked the husband to file an affidavit and submit an undertaking stating he shall support her in all regards, including her education and respect her will to keep in touch with her parents. After the couple raised concerns about their security, the HC directed the govt lawyer to ensure their safe passage.
