Dating trap: 46-year-old loses Rs 18 lakh in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: A 46-year-old man from Sabarmati on Monday filed a complaint with the Cybercrime police of the city alleging that two women posing as employees of a dating website cheated him of Rs 18 lakh.
Ayyar Krishnamurthy, a resident of Samarthya Status flats near D Cabin, said in his FIR that he had received a text message from an unknown number on January 3.He called the number and a woman, who introduced herself as Suman from "Royal Dating and Chatting Company", talked with him.
She told Krishnamurthy that an executive from her company will call him and verify his details and she would register him on the dating website. He said another woman named Disha called him and again asked if he would like to join the dating website. As Krishnamurthy wanted to join the website, she told him to pay charges.
According to the instructions of the second woman, Krishnamurthy paid Rs 17.64 lakh between January 4, 2023 and February 28, 2023 into six accounts. Krishnamurthy said the accused lured him as a part of a criminal conspiracy.
