Gandhinagar: The X (formerly Twitter) account of Gujarat's minister of state for cooperation, Jagdish Vishwakarma, was hacked by some unidentified person. The hacker altered the bio on his verified X handle — @MLAJagdish — to state that he was the
Prime Minister of India.
The minister has filed a police complaint with the cybercrime department, according to an official statement.
"An unknown individual hacked my Twitter (X) account, and certain individuals are attempting to spread misinformation among citizens and workers through this act," the statement, quoting the minister, stated on Thursday.
The statement added that cybercrime experts are working on tracking the persons who hacked the account.
The minister said that he was not aware of his account being hacked. "Someone pointed out to me that my X bio was changed. When I discovered this, I immediately filed a complaint with the cybercrime officials, asking them to look into the matter," Vishwakarma said.
The state Congress on Thursday circulated screenshots of Vishwakarma's verified X bio, which read, "Prime Minister of India. Respect Food Warrior. Striving for the growth and welfare of India," stating that the state minister has aspirations of becoming the PM.
Vishwakarma is a three-time MLA from the Nikol constituency in Ahmedabad city, winning the seat in 2012, 2017, and 2022. He was also the former BJP chief of Ahmedabad city and holds the minister of state (independent charge) for cooperation, apart from having the MoS portfolios of MSME, cottage, khadi and rural industries, and civil aviation.
