Ahmedabad: A mild earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck north Gujarat on Friday night. The tremor occurred at 10.15pm, with its epicentre located approximately 13km south to south-west of Patan.
The earthquake's coordinates were recorded at a latitude of 23.742 and a longitude of 72.065, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) in Gandhinagar.
"It's a small to moderate earthquake, typically originating from the Patan area due to its small faults," said a senior ISR official. Residents in the affected areas reported feeling the ground shake, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
"Unlike Kutch faults, these are small faults. There is no history of big earthquakes in this region," added the ISR official.
