AHMEDABAD: Now, ultrasound inside the heart arteries can be done before and after angioplasty for better diagnosis and treatment of heart blockages. The workshop on Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) imaging was held here on Friday to create more awareness and technical know how about this technology for the benefit of people.
The workshop was organized by CVHF group and Apollo Hospital.

Dr M Terashima from Japan, considered to be master in IVUS technology, was the course director. He stressed the importance and benefits of IVUS-guided angiography and angioplasty.
Cardiologists Dr Sunil Thanvi and Dr Sameer Dani took sessions in the workshop.
"The IVUS allows us to know whether the stent is properly placed or not in order to ensure long term benefits of angioplasty and reduce relapse or re-blockages which happen in many cases".
Dr Thanvi said, "Few complications like dissection, blood clotting (thrombus formation) can be avoided using IVUS, thus reducing chances of complications at the time of angioplasty procedure saving many lives."
