AHMEDABAD: Hooch seems to be haunting the city police officials. On Monday, Ellisbridge police station officials spent a sleepless night, when Sailesh Jadav, 19, walked into the VS Hospital, claiming that he had consumed country liquor and was not feeling well. Jadav, who stays in the hospital's staff quarter was rushed to the emergency ward.
Country liquor sent alarms bells ringing and the doctors rushed to the ward to treat the youth.

"We thought that Jadav had consumed spurious liquor," said the medicos. In July, more than 150 people had died after consuming spurious liquor. Last week six more died because of hooch and this caused much embarrassment to the state and city police authorities, who claimed that illicit liquor supply had been cut-off completely.
However, again on Monday some senior police officials rushed to VS Hospital where Jadav was admitted and appealed the hospital authorities not to declare Jadav as a hooch victim. But, the doctors were firm and continued the treatment to neutralise effect of spurious country liquor. The policemen then promptly booked Jadav under the Prohibition Act after he confessed to having consumed liquor at a den in Madalpur. And, later a police team raided the den but it proved futile and the cops got hold of just two pouches of country liquor.
The twist in tale came on Tuesday afternoon when the youth's blood samples which were sent to the forensic science laboratory, showed that there were no traces of alcohol. "There was neither methanol nor ethanol found in his blood which means that the youth never consumed any form of liquor. He seems to be suffering from some mental ailment and delusions," said HM Kundaliya, inspector of Ellisbridge police station.
