Three mini stadiums in Prayagraj to get major upgrades
Prayagraj: Three mini stadiums in the Prayagraj district, located in Shankargarh, Handia, and Koraon tehsil, are set to receive major upgrades following the govt's approval of a Rs 3 crore grant.
"The Youth Welfare and Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD) department has allocated Rs 1 crore for each stadium. The renovation work will commence shortly and carried out on a fast-track basis to benefit athletes," said PRD district commandant Gulshan Sharma.
Currently, the stadiums are in poor shape, with damaged roofs, deteriorating walls and grounds unfit for sporting activities. These facilities were initially constructed under the Centre's Khelo India initiative to boost grassroots-level sports. However, years of neglect left them in a dilapidated state, prompting the proposal for repairs that was submitted last year and has now been approved.
The makeover will involve comprehensive repairs, including the reconstruction of boundary walls, fresh paintwork, upgraded seating arrangements and general structural improvements. These stadiums play a crucial role in hosting district-level sports competitions every Nov and Dec, organised by the Youth Welfare and PRD department.
Prayagraj district currently has five mini stadiums in Shankargarh, Koraon, Handia, Chaka, and Phulpur. With the upcoming renovations, the three selected stadiums are expected to provide much-needed support to local athletes, enhancing opportunities for training and competition. The facelift marks a positive step toward promoting sports culture and infrastructure development at the district level.
