NEW DELHI: Police in Tirupati have filed a case against former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Chairman and YSRCP leader B Karunakar Reddy for allegedly making false claims about cow deaths at SV Goshala, following a complaint by TTD Board member Bhanuprakash Reddy on April 18.
The case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after Karunakar Reddy claimed that 100 cows had died in the SV Goshala due to administrative negligence.
"These false statements have hurt the sentiments of devotees," Bhanuprakash Reddy stated in his complaint.
The incident escalated when YSRCP leaders, including Tirupati MP M Gurumoorthy, were denied entry into the TTD Gaushala on Thursday. Karunakar Reddy and others staged a protest by lying on the road after police prevented their visit.
YSRCP accused the Telugu Desam Party government of using police force to cover up alleged mismanagement at the Tirumala cowshed operated by the temple trust.
In response, the ruling TDP accused YSRCP of politicizing cow protection and hurting Hindu devotees' sentiments.
The protest highlighted growing tensions between the political parties over the management of the temple trust's facilities.
