BENGALURU: Nine men, who were arrested for allegedly threatening the owner of Karachi Bakery in Indiranagar for having named the outlet after the Pakistani capital, were released on bail on Sunday, said police.
The nine were arrested after the bakery owner filed a complaint, saying he had threatened for displaying Karachi name on the board.
The arrested persons were identified as Babaji, Srihari, Praveen, Sreeyappa, Shivakumar, Gunashekar, Lakshman, Sanjay and Naveen.
All the accused live in and around Ulsoor and are aged 30-35 years.
Police said the accused claimed they did not do anything wrong and justified their actions as “patriotic”. Police chided them for resorting to moral policing.
The arrests were made based on CCTV footage from the bakery collected by police. They said prima facie they do not belong to any outfit, but an investigation is under way to check whether anyone had sent them to the bakery.
