BANGALORE: Yet another staffer of the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (KS&DL) has been caught with ill-gotten wealth amounting to over Rs 3 crore on Thursday by the Lok Ayukta sleuths. This comes close on the heels of Lok Ayukta recovering over Rs 7 crore in cash and assets from the house of KS&DL GM on Wednesday. Investigation has revealed that these two officials Gowrish Shankar Bhatt, general manager and K Anjanappa, marketing director have amassed over Rs 10 crore in their 20 years of service.
They have been suspended for the last 10 months pending inquiry. Another colleague of theirs, Shanbhog, has been dismissed from service. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Lok Ayukta Justice N Venkatachala said "These corrupt officials are the real enemies of the nation and they need to be punished. I will write a letter to the Centre to make amendments to the law to this effect." "Ironically, a senior officer at the Lok Ayukta's office had given a clean chit to these officers when allegations of corruption were levelled against them five years ago," he added. "Raids on the premises of Gowrish Shankar Bhatt and Anjanappa are still continuing. They will be arrested once the investigation is completed. The Lok Ayukta will write to the banks asking them to freeze the officers' accounts," sources said. Meanwhile, Lok Ayukta sleuths trapped Lakshman, a first division clerk in Kolar for taking bribe and seized the cash.
