bangalore: with the setting up of the state-of-the-art theatre complex, ranga shankara, theatre is all set to regain its lost glory again in this cultural hub . ``ranga shankara will be one of shankar's dreams come true,'' arundhati nag, wife of the late shankar nag, and chairman and managing trustee of sanket trust which has conceived the project, said on saturday.
``the project costing rs 2.5 crore with the best lighting, design, acoustics and a seating capacity of 300, will be completed latest by january 2003,'' she said. ``ranga shankara is envisioned as a platform that will catapult karnataka to the forefront of theatre rejuvenation in india", arundhati said here. construction of the theatre complex, to be taken up in two phases, will commence in the first week of october. inspired by prithvi theatre in mumbai, this complex will not only have a unique thrust stage and the best infrastructural facilities, but will also house a music shop, book shop, art gallery and cafeteria, she said. theatre director m.s. sathyu, who is one of the trustees, said: ``for the first time, a theatre complex is being built by theatre persons who understand the works totally.'' other trustees include girish karnad and vijay phadki, the founder of bangalore little theatre (blt).
