A 22-year-old Wipro software engineer was killed after a water tanker rammed the motorcycle he was riding pillion in near Electronic City on Thursday night.

BANGALORE: A 22-year-old Wipro software engineer was killed after a water tanker rammed the motorcycle he was riding pillion in near Electronic City on Thursday night.
SR Ashwin Kumar, a native of Shimoga, used to live in a PG accommodation near Electronic City main road. Ashwin and his colleague-cum-roommate V Karthik, 22, a native of Tamil Nadu, were returning home when the accident took place.

Police suspect Karthik was riding rashly and lost balance after the bike hit the median. The motorcycle skid throwing Karthik and Ashwin onto the road, somewhere between 7.45pm and 8pm in front of Lemon Tree Hotel, near Wipro gate. The tanker driver coming from behind failed to apply brakes on time and ran over Ashwin.
He sustained serious injuries in his abdomen and died on the spot, while Karthik sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital by passersby. The tanker driver fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind.
Ashwin had joined Wipro recently as trainee.
Man succumbs to burns
A 48-year-old man succumbed to burns after he was set on fire by a relative.
Anjanappa, an autorickshaw driver, was set ablaze by civil contractor Gangadhar over a petty land dispute on Monday night. He breathed his last on Friday morning.
Gangadhar came to Anjanappa's house in Subbanna Garden, Vijayanagar, and through the window poured kerosene inside the house and set him on fire. The duo always argued over a property in Chikmagalur.
Police arrested Gangadhar and booked him for murder.
