Bhopal: A speeding car hit two brothers crossing the road near Bitten Market Dussehra Ground in Habibganj late on Sunday night, leaving both with serious injuries. One of them succumbed on Monday afternoon, while the other remains in critical condition.
The driver fled the scene, and police have launched an investigation.
According to Habibganj police, the deceased, Ankit Sen, 21, a native of Bartalai village in Damoh district, was staying at a relative's servant quarters in Char Imli and worked at a vegetable shop in Bitten Market. On Saturday night, Ankit's brother, Bhagirath Sen, lost his mobile phone in Bitten Market. The two spent hours searching for it and eventually found it around 2 am on Sunday.
As they crossed the road near Dussehra Ground, a speeding car from Ravishankar Nagar struck them and sped away.
Ankit suffered severe head, thigh, and internal injuries, while Bhagirath was also badly hurt. Passersby immediately called for an ambulance, and the brothers were rushed to Hamidia Hospital.
Despite medical efforts, Ankit died on Monday, while Bhagirath remains in critical condition.
Bhagirath told police he was unable to note the car's registration number due to the sudden impact. A case has been registered, and police are working to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run case.
