Over 900 Bhopal Central Jail inmates screened in health camp
Bhopal: More than 900 inmates at Bhopal Central Jail received medical care during a comprehensive health camp organised by the district health department in collaboration with the district legal services authority. The day-long camp offered specialised consultations and treatment across various departments to both inmates and jail staff.
A total of 922 people benefited from the health services provided by various departments at the camp. Consultations were given to 196 people in medicine, 86 in dermatology, 44 in dentistry, 165 in ophthalmology, 69 in ENT, 128 in orthopaedics, 15 in gynaecology, and 42 for mental health issues. Additionally, services in neurology, oncology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, and others were provided.
The health camp also conducted screenings for hypertension and diabetes, along with consultations for various communicable diseases.
Dr Prabhakar Tiwari, Chief Medical and Health Officer, Bhopal, stated that the camp was jointly organised by the district legal services authority and the health department of Bhopal for the health benefits of the inmates. Information about the schemes run by the health department was also provided during the camp, he said.
"There was no difference between problems faced by inmates and those faced normally by people. Issues like blood pressure and diabetes, which are common nowadays, were found," Tiwari told TOI.
