Bhopal: Voter turnout of 72.9% was reported at the four polling booths in Multai assembly segment of Betul constituency where repolling was held on Friday. This is slightly lower than the polling reported on May 7, officials attribute it to the fact that majority of population here is migrant workers, who work in neighbouring Maharashtra and they had returned after May 7.
Polls were held in Betul constituency on May 7.
However, after polls when the EVMs were being brought to the strong room, the bus bringing the EVMs caught fire. EVMs of four polling booths were gutted in the fire, hence repolling was ordered by the Election Commission (EC) at Rajapur, Dudar Raiyat, Kunda Raiyat and Chikhli Mal polling booths.
“Overall polling percentage of 72.9% was reported at these booths, this is close to the one reported on May 7 and is only little lower. Though we ensured that each and every voter of these booths votes, vehicles were deployed for transporting elderly and everyone present in the villages voted. But as the area is tribal dominated and close to Maharashtra, majority of population consists of migrant workers and those who had come for voting had again returned to work”, district election officer and collector, Betul, Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi told TOI.
