Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu has modified her upcoming tour to the state, dropping Cuttack from her itinerary while maintaining her scheduled visits to Bhubaneswar and Nayagarh, officials announced Tuesday.
Cuttack district collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde confirmed that the President's planned engagements in Cuttack on March 25, including the Ravenshaw University convocation, have been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
The revised schedule will see President Murmu visiting the Nilamadhab Temple in Kantilo, Nayagarh and attending the foundation day ceremony of the Bharatiya Biswabasu Shabar Samaj Foundation on March 24.
"The president's original itinerary included multiple events in Cuttack, but these have been postponed," Shinde told reporters. The visit would have marked her first appearance at Ravenshaw University since she became president.
The cancellation has disappointed many, particularly the university community, who had made elaborate preparations for the convocation ceremony. University sources said they are hoping for a rescheduled visit in the near future.
President Murmu was initially scheduled to arrive at Biju Patnaik International Airport here before proceeding to Cuttack's Satyabrata Stadium helipad for the university event.
Local authorities are now focusing on arrangements for her confirmed engagements in Nayagarh and Bhubaneswar. Further details about the modified schedule are expected to be released soon.
