CHANDIGARH: College students across the Tricity have taken upon themselves the task to preserve the ailing environment. This Sunday marks the
World Environment Day and the youngsters have planned several activities.
Some would organize a green fashion show while others would carry out mass awareness campaigns. Many pupils are ready for a cycle rally.
A commerce graduate of SD college, Sector 32, said, ‘‘Small steps are vital for a change.
About 400 people would participate in the event, including families and children. Students would plant saplings.’’
Second-year commerce student of SD College Ekta said, ‘‘I and my friends have been planning this event ever since our exams concluded. I postponed my trip to Shimla. We hope this initiative would serve its purpose.’’ Environment society of India would organize a rally for cyclists and joggers, which would start from Mohali and would commence at Rose Garden, Sector 16.
‘‘The rally route would be called the green route and use of non-polluting vehicles would be encouraged,’’ said Ranbir Arora who is a first-year student of masters in finance, Panjab University.
Manuj Sharma, a second-year electrical engineering student of PEC said, ‘‘Until last year, I didn’t even know the significance of this day. But now, I am doing my bit, in whatever I can.’’
