Kaithal: The economic offences cell of Kaithal police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a travel agent from Chandigarh for cheating a man on the pretext of sending him to New Zealand.
As per the complainant, four men took money from him in 2023 but didn't send him to the country even after two years.
One of the accused, identified as Gurinder Singh alias Guri, a resident of Mandi Ahmedgarh in Punjab's Sangrur district was arrested by ASI Randhir Singh and his team members.
A police spokesperson informed that Vikram Singh, a resident of Balbehra village in Cheeka town of Kaithal district was seeking to work abroad and had contacted Gurvinder Singh, Parvinder Singh, Jaskeerat Kaur, and Gagandeep Kaur in Chandigarh.
The accused assured him of getting a work visa for New Zealand within 45 days. They settled the deal on a fee of Rs 12.5 lakh. Between May 2023 and Sept 2023, the accused took the money from Vikram by showing him a joining letter from a company and promising to send him abroad, said the spokesperson.
Vikram claimed that till now, the accused neither sent him abroad nor returned his money. When he demanded the money, the accused threatened to kill him. Based on Vikram's complaint, a case was registered at Cheeka police station, said the spokesperson.
Gurinder Singh is already in a jail at Chandigarh for another case and a production warrant was obtained through the court for his arrest in this matter, informed the spokesperson.
He was taken on a production warrant and a four-day police remand was obtained from the court for further interrogation, said Praveen, spokesperson, Kaithal police.
