Chandigarh: The UT police have booked the owners and management of Elante mall for alleged negligence after a woman and a minor were injured in a mishap inside the mall premises on Sunday. As per the FIR, the injured woman did not receive medical attention for 20 minutes in the medical room of the mall, and later she was admitted to a private hospital. No arrests have been made in the case so far.
On Sept 29, Surbhi Jain of Sector 22, and her niece Maisha Dixit, 13, were injured after a granite tile from a pillar fell on them. Surbhi Jain received stitches on her head, while Maisha Dixit received injuries in her ribs. In her complaint to the police, Surbhi Jain, alleged that she suffered severe head injuries and harassment due to the actions of the owners and management of Nexus Elante Mall, located in Industrial Area, Phase I, Chandigarh. Surbhi had visited Nexus Elante Mall with her family, including her husband, Sahil Jain, to celebrate her niece Maisha Dixit's birthday. At approximately 4 pm, as the family was clicking pictures on the ground floor, a large granite slab from a pillar fell directly on Surbhi's head from a height of about 25 feet, causing her to sustain serious head injuries. Her niece, Maisha, also sustained injuries from the falling slab. Immediately after the incident, Surbhi said an employee from a showroom came to Surbhi's aid as she was heavily bleeding from the head and unable to walk or comprehend the situation. She was then taken to the Mall's Medical Room, where she received no medical treatment or attention for about 20 minutes, and no medical attendant was present. Due to the severity of her injuries and the inability of the medical nurse to provide adequate care, Surbhi and her niece were transported to Eden Hospital in Industrial Area, Phase-I, where she was admitted, and her injuries were treated by stitching the wounds and conducting various tests and scans.
Later, Surbhi's husband called the police, and they arrived at the hospital, but she was unable to give a statement at that time due to her serious injuries.
Surbhi’s family has also alleged that they have been facing pressure from the mall authorities to settle the matter.
The official spokesperson of Elante said, “We are aware about the FIR that has been registered. The team is fully cooperating with the investigating authorities and has submitted all evidences, including CCTV footage, to the police to further assess the incident. The matter is now subjudice; we will be unable to offer any further comment in this regard.”
