KURUKSHETRA: The crime investigation agency (CIA)-II of Kurukshetra police arrested four residents of Faridkot district of Punjab, after recovering 36.14 kg opium from their possession in Pehowa Sadar police station area in the early hours on Monday.

The arrested accused persons were identified as Punjab Singh, Gurwinder Singh, Sewa Singh and Jeet Basu, all residents of Koni in Sadiq police station area of Faridkot district. Kurukshetra superintendent of police (SP) Varun Singla said that the accused were smuggling opium from Jharkhand to Punjab via Haryana.

The accused persons were produced before the district court in Pehowa, from where, the police has sought a 10-day remand for investigating the forward and backward linkages.

The SP said the CIA-II team was present near Usmanpur village bus stop on the National Highway (NH) 152-D, under the leadership of DSP Pehowa Paramjit Singh. The CIA-II received the tip-off that the four arrested accused sell opium and they are traveling in two different Punjab number trucks with opium hidden in large quantities.
