Prime minister Narendra Modi addressed the gathering at the event through teleconferencing.
Condoling the death of his friend and Thuglak editor Cho Ramaswamy, Rajinikanth said, "When we see untoward... unusual political happenings, I wonder how it would be if Cho were here. I feel really sad."
Sarathkumar had contested the assembly elections last year in the Tiruchendur constituency under the AIADMK's 'two leaves' symbol and lost to a DMK candidate. He said, "Rajinikanth is not even qualified to speak about Tamil Nadu politics. He has to clarify what unusual situation is prevailing. He should not enter politics and if he does, I will be the first one to oppose it."
