CHENNAI: An AIADMK candidate in the urban local body polls in Kancheepuram died by suicide at his home on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as
Janakiraman, 36, who was the AIADMK candidate in ward 36 in Kancheepuram Municipal Corporation.
Janakiraman was actively involved in campaigning after filing his nominations last week. On Wednesday, AIADMK joint convenor Edappadi K Palaniswami introduced the candidates in Kancheepuram, including Janakiraman.
On Thursday morning, one of Janakiraman's family members found him hanging from the ceiling of his room.
His body was sent for a postmortem.
The reason for his suicide was not known immediately, police said. Police were checking whether he had left behind any suicide note. A probe was on to find out whether he had taken the extreme step over a family issue or was there any threat to him.
The Vishnu Kanchi police registered a case.
