Man shoots wife to death in Coimbatore, kills self in Kerala
COIMBATORE: A 54-year-old man shot his wife dead at Pattanampudur in Coimbatore district with a country-made gun on Monday morning and later killed himself in his native place in Palakkad district of Kerala with the same gun.
The deceased have been identified as S Krishnakumar, who hailed from Vandali area in Palakkad district, and his wife as K Sangeetha. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Krishnakumar suspected his wife’s fidelity and murdered her.
Police said the couple had been residing in their own house at Lakshmi Nagar in Pattanampudur. She was working in a private firm in Coimbatore.
Krishnakumar had worked in a travel agency in Malaysia for a few years and later returned to India. Due to a difference of opinion, Krishnakumar separated from his wife five months ago, and he used to stay in his native place in Palakkad district.
The couple’s two daughters are studying in a private public school in Kovilpalayam. They went to their school in a van around 6.30am. Krishnakumar came to Pattanampudur in a car around 7am and opened fire at his wife with the country-made gun. The bullet pierced her chest, and she died on the spot.
Krishnakumar left the house immediately, travelled back to his hometown in the car and shot himself dead.
While returning to his hometown, Krishnakumar posted a voice message on the Lakshmi Nagar Residents Association’s WhatsApp group and explained his family problems. The locals rushed to the spot and found the door locked from outside. They managed to open the door and found Sangeetha dead. They alerted the Sulur police, who rushed to the spot.
Coimbatore district superintendent of police Dr K Karthikeyan and police officials visited the crime scene.
Meanwhile, the Kerala state police came to know about the suicide of Krishnakumar at his home. They reached the spot and recovered the body. They seized the country-made gun.
