CHENNAI: The Coimbatore Corporation on Tuesday removed the names of former chief minister C N Annadurai and former minister P Kakkan from a public toilet in Silver Jubilee area in the wake of criticisms that the civic body had disrespected the late leaders.
The issue gained attention after former BJP state president K Annamalai posted on X a video of the toilet which had the names “Perarignar Annadurai” and “Thyagi Kakkan G” on the exterior.
Following the criticisms, corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran issued the orders to repaint the nameboard.
After repainting The commissioner told TOI that that toilet was built in 2010. “There's an inscription that specifies that it was established under a scheme titled in the leaders’ names. Hence an investigation to cross check the credibility of the scheme has been initiated. Accordingly, measures will be taken. Meanwhile, the nameboard has been repainted," he said.
