NEW DELHI: While Ramlila Maidan might be the epicentre of Anna’s protest in Delhi, the revolutionary fervour is spreading all over the city with different Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWA) joining in.
EPDP Association, an umbrella body of 25 different RWAs in Chittaranjan Park, along with RWAs of Greater Kailash Part – II and Alaknanda organised a candlelight march on Sunday in the area.
"Anna is spearheading the war against corruption and we want to show our support," said P K Roy, secretary, EPDP Association. "The candlelight vigil was attended by almost a thousand people including senior citizens and children who were unable to visit Ramlila Maidan due to the heat," said Shipra Sarkar, a resident of C R Park. Residents participating in the RWA marches said they were amazed by the way in which Anna had inspired people from different walks of life.
"There was a candlelight vigil organised in my colony and children held candles and sang songs," said Priyanka, a resident. RWA’s from all over the city, including Defence Colony, East of Kailash, Vasant Kunj, Dwarka, Rohini, Rajender Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and Shalimar Bagh, have organised protest rallies against the government’s version of the Lokpal Bill.
"The government version of the Lokpal Bill has draconian provisions to silence the voice that points out corruption. The bill gives enough time to the corrupt to destroy evidence and trap the complainant," said Ritesh Dewan of Shalimar Bagh, RWA.
