GHAZIABAD: One kanwaria died while another was seriously injured after a four-wheeler hit their bike on the Delhi-Meerut road near the Kadrabad police chowki on Tuesday.

Yogendra Kumar Singh, the station house officer of Modinagar police station, said that at around 2 am on Tuesday, police got information about the accident.
A team reached the spot and took the injured people to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The doctors declared Chetan 'brought dead', while Prince's condition remains critical. “Investigation revealed they were going to Haridwar from Delhi on a bike. An unidentified four-wheeler hit the bike, and the driver didn’t stop to check the victim's condition. Police are checking the CCTV footage of the nearby area to trace the suspect,” he said.
A family member of Prince said they were friends from childhood. Both have been participating in the kanwar yatra for the past five years. "On Monday, after visiting a Shiv temple in the neighbourhood, both had left the house for Haridwar around 6 pm. When they reached the Ghaziabad Meerut-Tiraha junction, they rested for some time. Prince called and informed the family they had reached Ghaziabad and would start their journey again after taking meals," he said.
“An FIR has been lodged under the IPC sections 269 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence). We have formed a team to solve the case,” the SHO said.
