Panaji: Goa govt issued an amendment to the previously published notification regarding the district road safety committee (South). This amendment includes the addition of new members to ensure a more holistic and collaborative approach to road safety issues, with expertise from education, tourism, animal husbandry, and public works.
As per the new changes made to the structure of the district road safety committee (South), the position of block development officer Salcete-I was updated, replacing the previous member with the block development officer, Salcete-I. The new entry now reads, “(xiii) the block development officer Salcete-I”, who will be a member.
New members were introduced to the committee to improve its multidisciplinary representation. These are the deputy director of education, central zone; the assistant director of tourism (planning), department of tourism; and the assistant director, govt veterinary hospital, Sonsodo, Margao, department of animal husbandry and veterinary services.
In addition, the superintending engineer, CO-IV (Roads), (SH), (MDR) and (RR/VV), Public Works Department, Fatorda, South Goa, will be the member secretary.
In a notification issued on Friday, govt clarified that this amendment will take effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, ensuring that the committee is immediately empowered to implement its updated framework.
By including a wider range of experts and stakeholders, the committee seeks to strengthen its approach to reducing road accidents and enhancing public safety.
The committee's role is to improve road safety and reduce accidents by conducting in-depth studies on accident causes, analysing infrastructure, and implementing necessary safety measures, both short-term and long-term, at accident-prone zones.
