Panaji: The high court of Bombay at Goa on Tuesday asked govt to submit a list of the completed and pending works
to reduce chaos and dust pollution along the Porvorim road where work of elevated corridor is under way. The decision to share the list was taken during recent meetings held with representatives of various govt depts at the advocate general’s office.
The high court on Tuesday granted leave to implead Goa Pollution Control Board and the consultant of the project Lion Engineering Consultants Pvt Ltd as
respondents in a PIL.
During the hearing the petitioner Moses Pinto told the high court that more personnel are required to man traffic along the stretch.
He also said that trenches along the road haven’t been barricaded, nor do they display any warning, posing a danger to vehicles.
Pinto also suggested continuity in barricading between the construction and the road surface/carriageway to ensure safety for the public.
The HC will hear the matter again on Wednesday and is likely to issue directions.
At a meeting of govt agencies at the advocate general’s office last week, it was suggested to hotmix some stretches of road, to water the roads to avoid dust and have more signage and illumination along the road and also station ambulances by the side of the road. It was further suggested that construction of the elevated corridor beyond O’Coqueiro circle not be carried out until the new year to avoid congestion.
It was also suggested to have ambulance vans and motorcycle ambulances stationed at strategic locations along NH66 at Porvorim and signboards indicating their location and contact numbers at prominent places along the route.
